Drinking on a Monday is a short column where I share that one bottle that I open after the most dreadful of all weekdays.
I have a confession to make: I have never been to Anaheim for beer-related reasons. It sounds ridiculous considering that world class breweries like The Bruery and Noble Aleworks are a mere 30 miles away from my house, but [insert generic LA traffic complaint here]. Not to mention that if I’m going to drive all the way out to Anaheim, I’m going to want to enjoy the products of these breweries, which makes it quite difficult to get home afterwards. Regardless of my excuses, a few months ago Bottle Logic Brewing opened and became another place that tempts me down to Orange County, and after securing a bottle of Double Actuator, I don’t know how much longer my excuses will keep me away.
Double Actuator is a tropical fruit missile to the senses. Its aroma is big with mango and pineapple followed with a bit of dankness. It pours a bright amber orange with white head that is actually thinner than I would expect; it quickly dissipates into light lacing around the glass. The first sip is tropical, tropical, tropical with those flavors of mango and pineapple and some papaya. Its lightly piney and there’s a great dankness that settles into your cheeks. Its boozy, but not overly so considering its 10% ABV. Its thick; with a heavier body than many SoCal DIPA’s but still very refreshing.
This weekend will actually break my streak of not going to Anaheim, with Firkfest being the event that finally pulls me down to the O.C. Its going to be a THE beer event of the season (yep, I said it) and from what I understand Bottle Logic will have a couple beers available. Make sure you grab your tickets here.
